What is with a “quotes page” and why is it listed under weapons?  Well, I’m not apt to wax philosophic, especially on this site that I have dedicated to practical advice.  But we are not in a shooting war are we?  It’s a good idea to be ready for one, but it is the last thing I would ever want.  I argue voraciously on the internet, and in person, in favor of individual rights, especially the second amendment. I figured I would share some tools that I have found to be useful, the words of some of the greatest minds the world has ever known (both good and bad.)  That is why it is under the weapons links.  Our liberties are under assault, I hope you use these weapons, I hope we win this fight without resorting to other weapons.

"Before all else, be armed."
- Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527) Italian Political Philosopher

"All power grows from the barrel of a gun."
– Mao Zedong (1893-1976) Leader of the Communist revolution in China, despotic Chinese dictator

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
–Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) Founding father, noted author, publisher and scientist

"Be Prepared"
–Boy Scout Motto

"That rifle on the wall of the labourer's cottage or working class flat is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there."
-George Orwell

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest."
–Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) Leader of the non-violent resistance to British rule in India

"Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual was to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia."
-George Mason (1725-1792) Founding Father, Primary Author of the American Bill of Rights

"A free people ought not only to be armed but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well digested plan is requisite: And their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories, as tend to render them independent on others, for essential, particularly for military supplies."
-George Washington (1732-1799) Leader of the Armies against British rule in America, Founding Father and 1st President of the United States

"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
-Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) Author of the Declaration of Independence, Founding Father and 3rd President of the United States

"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms."
-James Madison (1751-1836) primary author of the US Constitution, Founding Father and 4th President of the United States

“... By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fear of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the 2nd amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationship, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the 2nd Amendment will always be important.”
-John Kennedy (1917-1963) 35th President of the United States

"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom."
-John Kennedy (1917-1963) 35th President of the United States

"The right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible."
-Hubert Humphrey (1911-1978) 38th Vice President of the United States and Democratic Presidential Nominee

And from the other side of the argument...

"Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA - ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State."
-Heinrich Himmler, leader of the secret police in NAZI Germany

"People who like assault weapons they should join the United States Army, we have them."
-Wesley Clark, Democrat presidential candidate 2003

"I want to add my voice to those who are calling on Congress to finally -- to finally -- pass these very common-sense gun measures." -Eric Holder , Attorney General of the United States under Barrak Obama

(NOTE the "common-sense" laws he is referring to make it far more difficult to obtain weapons with any military or self defense value)
