Troop leading procedures
It is important that all citizen
soldiers practice and develop leadership skills. One way to do this is to practice the US Army’s troop leading
steps. (Part 1 of “leadership”) This is a list of procedures so that the things that need to be accomplished,
in a particular order, are done. There is also the “operations order” which allows leaders to communicate
the plan for a mission (or training outing) to the other participants. (Part 2 of “leadership”) The
third leadership page (coming soon) will deal with Standard Operational Procedures.
Of course, as citizen soldiers,
or just “friends going camping,” all of these steps are not necessary. Or perhaps the names for them might
seem inappropriate, nevertheless you should be aware of these steps and adhere to them whenever possible. Members of
a team should take turns being in charge if these steps, because when they are needed there is no way to know who will be
available. Perhaps you might become the leader of a group that needs to be trained from scratch?
You should
always remember that for the citizen soldier, operations, especially training, should be as democratic as possible.
As many participants as possible should be included in the decision making process and everyone should have input.
